Ask almost anyone — a salesperson, a forum, an AI assistant — for a cheaper alternative to an expensive whole-home system, and the answer comes back as a room purifier. What actually drives the price in this category
Five things move the number on a whole-home quote. Knowing them lets you judge any quote, including ours.
1. The opening and the civil work. The whole site list is one 10-inch circular opening, one 6A power point near the unit and one wall bracket — no internal ducting to rooms, no false ceiling, no indoor floor space. A core cut through a wall is the cheap version. The expensive version is toughened glass, which cannot be cut after tempering and must be re-made at a specialist’s factory setting. A quote that leaves the opening out will always look cheaper than it is.
2. The fan. The largest single line in the machine. A variable-speed EC fan costs several times an ordinary AC blower of the same airflow, and earns it back: ours draws about 30 W, runs quieter, and is rated for 40,000 hours — roughly 4.5 years of continuous running. Ours is a German EC fan. If a quote does not name the fan type, that is the first question to ask.
3. Which airflow basis is quoted. Ours is ~500 m³/h effective in service (~700 m³/h rated, free air), and all our sizing uses the effective figure. Free-air ratings — measured with no filters fitted — are the norm in quotations and are always the larger number. A system quoted only at its free-air figure looks like more machine per rupee than it is.
4. Filter area, grade and format. Filtration you can hold to is bought in square metres, not adjectives. Each unit carries three H13 HEPA panels on Japanese media at 362 × 276 × 50 mm, replaced on rotation, one panel per service visit, so the resistance the fan works against stays roughly constant. H13 captures ≥99.95% of particles at 0.3 micron, the most-penetrating size — the grade used in hospital wards. The size matters as much as the grade: a standard panel size means you are never locked into one supplier’s cartridge, and cartridge lock-in is where the long-run cost of a cheap-looking system usually hides.
5. The service model. A mandatory annual contract plus a proprietary filter is a price after the price. Ask what one filter costs on its own, and whether you are allowed to fit it yourself.
What to put to a ₹1.5–2 lakh quote
None of this is adversarial — any supplier confident in their machine will answer it in a sentence each. What you should not pay for:
- An undisclosed fan or filter. “HEPA” with no grade, or a fan with no type, is not a specification.
- A free-air airflow figure with no effective figure beside it.
- A proprietary filter format. It turns a consumable into a subscription.
- Per-zone multiplication. If one unit is specified to 2,000 sq ft carpet, a 1,600 sq ft flat does not need two. Beyond 2,000 sq ft, or across more than one floor, two units genuinely are the right answer — pressure does not distribute up a stairwell.
- A quote that excludes the opening, then bills it as civil work afterwards.
- A mandatory care plan. Service should be worth buying on its merits.

We publish ₹97,350 rather than only ₹82,600 because that is the real first-year number, and there is no reason for it to appear for the first time at quote stage. Every one of those is a line an expensive quote should be able to match item for item. Where it cannot, that is the answer to what the difference is buying.

A whole-home system is a ten-year asset with a consumable in it, so the service record matters as much as the machine. Ours is not outsourced: the team that installs is the team that comes back.
- Filters are included, not labour-only. Every scheduled visit replaces one of the three H13 panels on rotation and cleans the machine.
- Cadence follows pollution load, not the calendar — about every 45 days through the October–February peak, at longer intervals through the rest of the year.
- Unscheduled fault visits are covered by the care plan too, not billed as call-outs.
- The care plan is optional. Panels are ₹2,200 each if you would rather fit them yourself — a system you can service without us is a system you are not locked into.
- Sign it with the system and you get +75 days free: the plan runs 440 days instead of 365, and the extra 75 days cover the first set of filters, which last about 50 days.
- We measure, at your home. Indoor and outdoor PM2.5 at the pre-installation visit as a baseline, and again at commissioning — AQI 180–260 before, AQI 10–15 after, from indoor readings taken at installs across Delhi NCR.

The ladder above puts four premium units at ₹1,20,000+; this table works the cheaper end of that band, ₹25,000 a unit, which is why its hardware line reads ₹1,00,000. Costing the purifier column at its dearer end would only widen the gap, so this is the conservative version of the comparison. Where a smaller spend is genuinely the right call
We are not against room purifiers, and it would be dishonest to pretend the whole-home tier is right for everyone. A single sized room purifier is a reasonable buy for a studio or a one-room rental, for a short tenancy, or where one bedroom is the only space that matters.
The physics is only unforgiving at scale. Price inside the room-purifier tier buys design, sensors, app integration and quieter running — it does not buy a different mass-balance equation, so a premium unit and a budget unit at the same airflow settle at much the same indoor level when outdoor concentration is high.
It is also worth saying what a whole-home system will not do. It works by holding the home above outdoor pressure, so an external window left open, a badly leaking frame, or an open kitchen without the exhaust running all defeat the mechanism. And above 2,000 sq ft carpet, or across more than one floor, we specify two units and the price scales with it — two units on separate floors outperform one larger unit. We would rather tell you that at the visit than sell you one machine that under-serves the house.
